"Thanks again for working with my foot/ankle. You saved the day! I never would have been able to complete the run without your great work!"

Movement
It really is this simple….can you balance these?
Non-Movement
Intense Movement
Relaxing Movement
Sitting at desk
Sitting in car
Sitting on couch
Laying in bed
Sitting at events
Standing without moving
Sitting on lawn mower
Etc.
Sports
Long and hard hikes
Lifting weights
Fast walking
Running
Fast swimming
Golf
Pushing the lawn mower
Etc.
Easy walking
Easy swimming
Easy hikes
Tai chi
Chi gong
Yoga
Stretching
Etc.
How you balance these depends of course, on you and your life.
Do you sit a lot? If so, then you need to balance it out by moving a lot, not necessarily intensely, just MOVE.
Please remember, FITNESS does NOT always = HEALTH.
In fact most people I see abuse fitness/exercise so much that it is not truly healthy. If your goal is health, then the point is to simply move. If your goal is a high level of fitness, well then that’s a whole different strategy that does not usually align well with optimum health.
Just look at most athletes, although they appear healthy, their joints ache, they have early stages of arthritis, and more. Don’t get me wrong. I live and breathe that lifestyle, but it is not necessary for me or you to achieve health.
So, if you are an athlete or someone who has a lot of intense movement in their life, then you too need to balance that out with relaxing movement and even non-movement.
The goal is to not drain your body of its vitality, hormones, minerals, etc. with too much intense movement, and at the same time not create such a inefficient and lethargic system from too much non-movement.
One last thing….the X-FACTOR.
Since how you do anything is how you do everything, your relaxing movement should be just that, relaxing, in order to reap its benefits. Otherwise it is just another movement.
For instance, if you stretch or walk for relaxation, but you have stressful things going on in your mind while you are doing them, then you are still stressing your body. These movements are meant to be a “time-out” from your daily grind so they can nourish you.
A common mistake I see is people focusing on weight loss, better fitness, looks, etc. while they workout, in fact that is often the main reason they are doing it. This is stressful to the body. If you relax during this time you will actually have a bigger impact on changing the body towards health than if your mind is busy thinking about these things.
This coincides with society’s focus these days on avoiding death and living longer rather than actually LIVING life in the moment.
Please be in the moment and enjoy these movements for what they are….
